Covid Women Fund: 32 Families Supported

In Indonesia’s villages, it’s been women who had to shoulder the burden of the pandemic - many to this day. Here are a few stories of the lives you touched with your donations.

The women of our initiative in Gaji Village, East Java. They received basic food supplies as well as some money to pay for daily needs.

To this day, the economic impact of the pandemic is very real in Indonesia’s villages. And it has been women who had to shoulder the main burden. From homeschooling their children and caring for family members - to finding ways to put food on the table. Many of their husbands are without a job to this day.

Through our Covid Women Fund, we set out to support these women in whatever form we could. We purchase medicines, food, even helped renovate a school for which literally no money was available. All thanks to you and your generous support.

Here are a few stories from our villages and the lives you’ve touched:

Ibu Muntiani, Gesikharjo Village, East Java

Ibu Muntinai currently is the only breadwinner of her family of 5. Her husband hasn’t found new work yet, so her entire income goes into providing the daily needs for herself and her children. As a result money is often tight.

Recently, Ibu Muntiani’s daughter needed money to buy internet quota to participate in mid-term exams which were still held online. Since there wasn’t enough money at the time, her daughter wasn’t able to join the exam.

With the money from the Covid Women Fund, Ibu Muntiani managed to pay off the school books and school uniform of her youngest daughter - and to put some money away for internet quota when her daughter needs it.

Mama Eka, Nangahore Village, Flores

“I was so worried. It was time to pay {the schoolfees], but we don’t know where to get the money. I prayed and prayed. The my neighbor told me about Rumah SukkhaCitta’s program.
I’m so happy Nani can continue her schooling now, but many in our village is not so lucky”
- Mama Eta

Mama Eta and her daughter Nani received the Covid Women Fund late last year. They live in Nangahore near Maumere, Flores. Part of a group of refugees, they were relocated to the mainland after a volcano eruption shook their island home. They used the funds to pay for Nani’s school year, books and her uniform.

Flood Relief in Medono Village, Central Java

Ibu Marsanah, Ibu Caswiti and Ibu Ayati in Medono Village received funds to help repair their houses after a flood had driven them out of their homes.

Medono Village near Pekalongan, Central Java, has to battle with recurring floods. The local community has gotten used to the annual phenomenon. But this rainy season, several houses were badly damaged, leaving the families of Ibu Marsanah, Ibu Caswiti and Ibu Ayati without a place to stay.

The three women used the Covid Women Fund to pay for the repairs of their houses - so their families once again have a safe and dry place to call home.

Thank you again for your generous support of our Covid Women Fund. Stay tuned for more stories from the recipients coming soon!
