Economics of Regeneration

One of the hardest parts of our work isn’t teaching soil regeneration.
It’s helping farmers believe that change is possible.

For generations, they’ve been told the same story: That chemicals are the only way to be productive. That monoculture is the only way to feed their families.

Even as their margins shrink and their soil breaks down.

In Lombok, we sat down with a group of farmers after a long day in the fields. They were skeptical. And rightly so. You can almost feel the resistance to doing things differently.

So instead of telling, we started sketching.

We looked at what they spend each season. What they actually earn.

The debt. The risk. The pressure to produce more, even when the land can’t give more.

And then we offered another perspective: What happens when you stop relying on chemicals? What becomes possible when the soil begins to heal?

We showed them real numbers from other villages. Other farmers just like them. Lower input costs. Stronger yields. Less debt.

And slowly, something shifted.

You could feel it. In the questions they started to ask and the way the conversation moved from No to How.

Because fear doesn’t leave overnight. But when someone sits beside you, not above you, and takes the time to walk through what’s possible, hope starts to feel viable.

That’s what we’re building at @RumahSukkhaCitta.

Not quick fixes, but long-term trust. So farmers no longer have to choose between survival and regeneration. But doing things right comes at a cost. And right now, no one wants to finance this.

And we want to bring this to more villages, so that more farmers can learn how to switch from intensive monoculture to regenerative farming.

Even crazier, we want to build the first Regenerative Research & Learning Center to invite more partners to be part of this revolution.
A place to test what works. To learn from the land. To support the people who feed us, with practices that heal, not harm.
