Sustaining Culture
Through Education

Craft is the second largest employing sector for women in developing countries.
Yet without access, most live a life of poverty. Unable to earn a fair wage for their work.
As part of the informal sector, no legal regulation exists to protect them.

As a result, young women are forced to abandon their craft in search for better livelihoods. Posing a risk to the continuation of indigenous cultures all over the Archipelago.

We exist to change that.

Through access to education, we create lasting change from the ground up.
Equipping young women with the skills to change her own life through trainings in business skills, cultural heritage, and environmentally-friendly practices.

In our craft schools, young women become apprentices to older mentors.
Recreating the broken lineage from mothers to daughters and ensure craftswomen not only survive, but thrive, as protectors of their culture.

Upon graduation, they receive access to market through our social enterprise.
Professionalizing the informal sector to benefit from the rising global demand and
guaranteeing the sustainability of our impact for years to come.

Indonesia’s First Craft Schools

Rumah SukkhaCitta are our awards-winning craft schools: a place where young women can come and learn how to continue their craft – in a way that pays living wages and is safe for their environment.

Traditionally, craft skills are passed on from mothers to daughters. Yet, seeing the struggles of their parents, many young women choose not to continue the craft.

Along with reinterpreted designs and fair market access, our 4 craft schools have been instrumental in the successful regeneration of 8 heritage techniques

Our Curriculums

Teaching resilience in the face of climate change is our ultimate goal, in training an empowered community of Artisans, Farmers and Changemakers. Through Rumah SukkhaCitta Foundation, we go beyond by reaching more communities in need. Providing climate resilience training to women in rural areas to turn waste into livelihoods, and helping smallholder farmers switch away from monoculture and chemicals.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Scaling Education

Currently we operate in 11 villages and have established a network of four craft schools.

Together with you, we want to scale our proven model of cultural regeneration to reach 10,000 lives by 2030. By increasing the capacity of our craft schools and digitizing our training programs so we can make them available to last mile communities across Indonesia.
